Total quality maturity encompasses but goes above and beyond the standard maturity approaches, compliance with common standards, regulations and excellence approaches by focussing on the total quality maturity of organizations within their context and ecosystems.

The Total Quality Maturity framework is
- A substantial enhancement of the quality maturity model with contemporary developments and knowledge in the fields of business, government and social requirements to cater for emerging priorities in concepts and applications of, amongst others, corporate and public governance, sustainability, the broader societal interest, and other best practices,
- Guided by the Quality Principles, evidenced by the culture and practice of doing the Right things Right the first time,
- A totally mature quality system goes beyond compliance with standards/codes (e.g. national, international, industry) and laws—it is the bedrock of the organisational system where quality is in the DNA of the organization, from the governing body, management and supervision to the shop floor employees, and extending to the ecosystem in which the organization exists
- The approach calibrates the quality risk maturity level, where an improvement in the level of total quality maturity results in the improvement of the total risk profile of the organization/enterprise. Thus achieving a high stage of Total Quality Maturity is a treatment strategy for lowering or mitigating Total Quality Maturity Risk to the organization and its ecosystem,
- Supports improvement of the cultural environment and climate within the organization which enables it to fully leverage the domain of Quality to unlock the benefits of sustainable high performance for the organization,
- Focussed on improving and sustaining the quality of the organization and its ecosystem, in addition to the quality of its products and services,
- The beneficiaries of the improvement include the organization’s customers, investors, shareholders, employees, society, everyone who and everything else in its ecosystem which stands to benefit and thrive as a consequence of such improvement,
- Quantified by means of a score that is obtained through an independent, formal Total Quality Maturity assessment which is carried out on the organization by competent persons who are certified as Directors of Quality and Improvement.
The Total Quality Maturity Risk is
- the assessed risk of organizational failure due to materialization of any event of poor quality in its ecosystem and internally, including failure of its products and services, that can prevent it from achieving its objectives.
- the assessed risk level is determined by and corresponds to the established total quality maturity score or stage of the organization
